History

  • Organized on May 11, 1945, the Milwaukee Chapter was renamed Wisconsin Chapter in 1991.
  • After the camps most stayed at a rooming house on Prospect or at the Carlton Hotel on Milwaukee Street at Juneau Avenue. Many went to the Milwaukee School Engineering on their GI Bill. Some went for their two year program wile others entered the four year program. Until the early 50’s there was a large group in Milwaukee but this decreased as the government offered to take us back to where we started.
  • During the forties and fifties there was a lot of social events. Bowling in the fall and winter, golf in the spring and summers. At the end of each season, big parties and awards.
  • Participates with the International Institute of Wisconsin.
  • Offers scholarships to high school graduates and college students
  •  Publishes a chapter newsletter.
  • Membership benefit: Subscription to the PACIFIC CITIZEN, the JACL national newsletter, discounted prices to all Wisconsin JACL chapter events.
  • The following activities are held annually:
    • Inaugural Dinner—January
    • Brewers’ game and tailgate party--July
    • Picnic—August
    • Family game Night General Meeting & elections—October
    • Holiday Folk Fair—November
    • Christmas Party
